Fish and Ski Boats: What Should You Have?
Let’s face it: almost any boat with a strong enough engine can work as a ski boat. But that doesn’t mean you should be casual with your choices. To get the most from your skiing experiences, you need the right layout and the right features.
While a center-console boat will work for skiing, most people who prioritize water sports will want a dual console boat. The dual console layout is ideal for fish and ski boats, because it generally provides better storage for items like towels, gear, and skiing accessories. Also, most dual console boats have rear-facing seats, so passengers can keep a watch on the skier. For skiing, you’ll likely have a larger group, so generous seating is also appreciated.
As for size, anything around 20 feet will do. At this size, boats are maneuverable and manageable, while still able to carry a decent-sized group. For example, our 21-foot 210 Dorado has an eight-person capacity.
For equipment and features, there are two particular items you should have. The first is a swim platform, which makes it easier for skiers to enter and exit the water. The second is a ski tow bar. A ski tow bar will lift the connection point between the boat and the tow rope, creating superior performance on the water.

Although this boat comes in a center console layout, it is still ideal for skiing and makes an outstanding fishing boat. The boat has port and starboard swim platforms and can be equipped with a ski pylon, which is similar to a ski tow bar. The center console layout is perfect for fishing, and it has a passenger capacity of nine. It can also be designed for maximum fishing performance.
175 Sport Dorado
Although it’s slightly smaller, the 175 Sport Dorado can be an excellent fish and ski boat. It has all the right features you want for skiing, including the swim platform with a ladder and the optional ski tow bar. This is also a great fishing boat, especially for shallow and intertidal areas. With a ten-inch draft and a spacious front casting deck, you can locate fish and put them in the boat with ease!
